Group 10- Jenny Adler

Case study:
Student is in an 8th grade Spanish class with 20 other students. According to his teachers, he has a history of difficulties with writing and spelling. These weaknesses are very apparent in Spanish. He also demonstrates weak ability to retain and recall information. He also has trouble articulating and annunciating when speaking in Spanish. He is just getting by with a D average.

Strengths:
He regularly attends extra help sessions. He is able to understand individual grammatical concepts, although he cannot maintain accuracy if the task is comprehensive. His mom says he likes video games and somehow manages to excell in that area. He is in the Choice Program and therefore has an iPad.

Problem:
This student needs to review and practice the material much more than the average student.

Plan:
To create opportunities for practice and repetition of vocabulary and grammar topics.
(Activities must include spelling, writing, and speaking.)
To employ technology because that will engage him.

Tools:

iPad
Quizlet: The student can play vocabulary games that the program creates automatically once the vocabulary is entered.
Show Me: The student can record himself spelling words or doing conjugations. He can also record his voice.

Smart Board/Notebook and Audacity
Using these two programs, the student can see a phrase, click on it to hear the phrase, copy the phrase with a fun writing tool, and then record his own voice saying the phrase. This activity needs to be created in advance by the teacher and can be used during after school help when the student can work independently at the Smart Board.
